Chez Abena opened in 2022 on Södra vägen in Gothenburg with a dream: to share the rich flavours of West African cooking with Sweden. Our food is rooted in traditions from Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal — recipes passed down through generations, cooked with love and care. We source locally wherever possible and import the spices and ingredients that cannot be grown here.

Our chef Abena grew up in Accra, learning to cook at her grandmother's side on the family compound. After training in Dakar and years in restaurants in London and Copenhagen, she moved to Gothenburg to open her own place. The kitchen blends three food cultures — Ghanaian, Nigerian and Senegalese — but always with respect for each dish's origins.
